FREQUENTLY ASKED
How much does a guided tahr hunt in New Zealand cost?
A guided tahr hunt with Alpha Adventures runs from NZ$9,200 for an introductory week up to NZ$15,500 for our most remote trophy week. Pricing is per hunter and includes the guide, accommodation, meals, transfers, and field preparation of your trophy.
What is included in the price?
Every booking includes the guide, tent-based spike camp on the hill, all meals on-trip, transfers from the nearest airfield, daily packed lunches, and field preparation of the cape and horns. Helicopter time is bundled into selected trips and clearly marked.
What is not included?
International flights, NZ entry/departure fees, hunting permits, your firearms licence (or rifle hire if you choose not to bring your own), trophy export and taxidermy, and gratuities are not included.
Are there add-on costs hunters should expect?
Most international hunters spend an additional NZ$2,000–4,000 on top of the trip price. Common extras: ammunition (NZ$80–200), trophy export and taxidermy (NZ$1,500–3,000), additional helicopter hours if the country demands it (NZ$2,500/hour), and a chamois add-on if you choose to take one (NZ$1,800).
How does this compare to a tahr hunt with other outfitters?
Our pricing sits in the middle of the New Zealand market. Cheaper options exist for foot-access-only weeks on public land; premium operations charging NZ$18,000–22,000 typically bundle more helicopter time. We are deliberately owner-operated and small — eight weeks a season, one guide.
How do I lock in a week?
A 30% deposit secures the booking. The balance is due 60 days before the trip start date. We accept bank transfer (NZ accounts) and international wire — Stripe card payments coming for the 2027 season.
